SHUTTERA Documentary Series Images are fixed; histories are not… CONCEPT: Powerful photographic images are almost a shorthand for 20th c. history; A single man holding a shopping bag standing in the middle of a city square staring down hostile tanks; a naked young girl running crying from her napalmed village-turned war zone; an idealistic American peace protestor facing a row of bayonets with a nothing more than a single flower. ”Shutter” is a documentary series that goes beyond the frame. This series tells the remarkable stories of how such iconic moments came to be and the ongoing legacies they hold. Each episode of “Shutter” tells the untold story of a famous picture. Looking deep into the background of each moment, “Shutter” is an exploration of the photographer’s craft. It shows the way in which personal lives and global history can be changed in the instant that the shutter is released. But it is more than a tribute to photojournalism. Crucially, each episode builds to a reunion. The photographer and the photo subjects’ will meet, face-to-face at the same place the original photo was taken. In short, “Shutter” is a multi-layered look at the intimate experiences of those behind the lens, the immortalisation of those in front of the lens and what happens when you reunite the photo protagonists for the first time in decades.
PRODUCTION TEAM The “Shutter” project came about through the discussions of three friends, Sally Aitken, Jesse James Miller and Dan McKinney. Veteran 60 Minutes producer Peter Klein has worked with DOP Dan McKinney on numerous projects and is taking an active role in “Shutter“ as executive producer. Combined, the team shares nearly a century of work in documentary production and they have been honored individually for their specialist skills in directing, writing, shooting, producing and editing. |
